Aubrey-Maturin Series - Patrick O'Brian

On Solitude (15123 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] toft - Jack Aubrey/Stephen Maturin

Jack/Stephen Accidental telepathic bonding fic, that manages to balance and remain true to both the fantastical trope and the historical canon and characters. The one Yuletide story where I was absolutely certain I knew the author as soon as I read it, because I'm not sure anyone but Toft could have written this story.

Books of the Raskura - Martha Wells

Children of the New Court (13032 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] pentapus - Jade/Moon, Moon/Chime, Jade/Moon/Chime

Fabulous long, plotty Cloud Roads fic. A great Chime pov and a great look at how Chime and Moon are both still struggling some to adjust to their changed circumstances.

The Dark Is Rising - Susan Cooper

Once and Future (1693 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] Llwyden - Bran Davies/Will Stanton

Wonderful future-fic full of rebirth and reincarnation and Will stepping into the role of oldest Old One. This is totally my headcanon now.

Enchanted Forest Chronicles - Patricia Wrede

The Balance of Affection (6060 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] RecessiveJean - Cimorene/Mendanbar

Wonderful family fic. I especially love Cimorene and Mendanbar's relationship here, and watching Mendanbar and Daystar slowly come to know each other as father and son. Also, footstools! And cats! The cats are a wonderful touch, very in-keeping with canon.

Invisible Cities - Italo Calvino

Invisible Citiez (559 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] norah

A series of texts between Marco Polo and Kublai Khan. No, really. Glorious and ridiculous. You really don't need to know canon to enjoy this one, or at least I didn't.

Young Avengers

Scenes from a Wedding (2682 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] traincat - Teddy Altman/Billy Kaplan

Completely charming wedding-fic full of wonderful character moments and clever details. And family. Oh, do those two boys have such complicated families... I don't' think I'd ever read anything of Traincat's before this Yuletide, but I clearly should have been, since this is the fourth of their stories I've recced this year.

Captain Britain & MI-13

boxes (656 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] misura

Dane meets Faiza's collection of comics. (Well, a part of it, anyway.)

A delightful moment between Dane and Faiza's mother. I loved Farida in the comics and it's great fun to see her again here.

Children's Work - Dessa Song

…And a Song for Minneapolis (2541 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] starlady

A great story about growing up and how complicated family relationships can be.

Space Girl - Ewan McColl & Peggy Seeger Song

My Only Self (4587 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] staranise - Space Girl/Servo Robot Rocket Pilot

The love story of a girl and her ship/robot. Completely adorable, with great worldbuilding. And, oh yes, tentacle porn. Because fandom.

Iowa - Dar Williams Song

A Great and Gruesome Height (19126 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] jaegecko - Narrator/OFC

Lord Peter Wimsey Series - Dorothy Sayers

The Affair of the Blanched Bibliomane (4176 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] pendrecarc

A completely fabulous bit of casefic with an outsider perspective on Peter. Also introduced me to a fabulous historical woman I'd never heard about before.

Particular Talents (1298 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] greywash

Oh, PETER. This made me cackle with glee. Bunter is an incredibly patient and tolerant man.

A Clean Fire (1359 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] harborshore - Harriet Vane/Peter Wimsey, Saint-George Wimsey/OMC

A great insight into Saint-George, with a much happier ending than Sayers had planned for him, while still feeling true to the characters and the time.

Discworld Series - Terry Pratchett

The Importance of Being Mostly Human (10434 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] gogollescent - Lobsang Ludd/Susan Sto Helit

In which Susan identifies "Where's My Cow" as a proto-talismanic anchor for Young Sam's continued health and existence, and tries very hard not to wonder what the Vimes' butler does on his day off. There may also be a lesson about the meaning of Hogswatch, but no one wants to talk about that.

Pitch-perfect Discworld fic that cleverly ties up some time-tossed loose ends from various books. Also, Susan Sto Helit meets the Vimes family! ♥ ♥ ♥

Opposable Forces (2109 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] CakeorDeath

A wonderful, melancholy look at the relationship between a father and grown son. I love how the grown up Young Sam is portrayed here, and especially how his relationship with his father is complicated and frustrating and loving and not at all sentimental or idealized.

Thyngs More Important Than Chocolates (1188 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] athenejen - Lobsang Ludd/Susan Sto Helit

Awwwwww. Completely delightful. I want to draw sparkly hearts around this fic, this pairing and this author.

Some Time Before (7080 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] neveralarch - Sybil Ramkin/Samuel Vimes, Adora Belle Dearheart/Moist von Lipwig

A glorious look at four complicated characters as their lives unfold and they choose who they want to be and find the one they want to be with. Very true to canon, while also expanding my understanding of especially Sybil and Adora in ways canon can't.

Going It Alone (1983 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] nomadicwriter - Mustrum Ridcully/Esmerelda "Granny" Weatherwax

A great look at the young Esme Weatherwax finding her place in life.

First and Foremost (2988 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] hollimichele - Carrot Ironfoundersson/Angua von Uberwald

What does it really mean to be a Watchmen first and a woman and a werewolf second? A great look at some of the women of Ankh-Morpork and the some of the unexpected costs of being a woman in a predominately-male career.

Chronicles of Chrestomanci - Diana Wynne Jones

Checklist (4303 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] allyndra

Millie's boarding school experience is everything she hoped for, but not necessarily what she expected.

The Young Chants (9455 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] ryfkah - Christopher Chant/Millie

Christopher and his growing family. Completely delightful! Worth reading especially for Christopher being summoned as Chrestomanci while trying to calm a crabby baby Julia.

Such Balsam Falls (2418 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] speakmefair - Mordecai Roberts/Flavian Temple, Mordecai Roberts/Miss Rosalie

A wonderful, complicated story about Mordecai and Flavian and the long-term consequences for Mordecai of his time as Tacroy. Absolutely beautifully evocative and lyrical writing.

A Place to Call Your Own (3388 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] hhertzof

Janet's got a brand new life in a magical castle, just like she always wanted, so why does she feel like she's not what they wanted?

A great story about Janet adapting to life at Chrestomanci Castle.

A Little Princess - Frances Hodgson Burnett/The Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett

Prakriti (1954 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] recrudescence

Anne of Green Gables - L.M. Montgomery

What the water sprites saw (1708 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] ineptshieldmaid - Gilbert Blythe/Anne Shirley, John Selwyn/Persis Leigh

Lovely Anne/Gilbert. Sweet, sensual and very in-keeping with the characters.

Roll in the Burlington (2505 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] breathedout - Anne Shirley/Katherine Brooke, Katherine Brooke/OFC

Just wonderful and completely unexpected. In which Katherine Brooke's happiness looks very little like Anne Shirley's happiness. Great historical details about both turn of the century theatre and turn of the century queerness, with a bonus dash of Canadian religious/language politics.

The World in a Grain of Sand (1125 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] Nestra

I love Katherine, and it's wonderful to see fic for her and see her get to live her dreams.

Mirabile - Janet Kagan

Stumped (3860 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] Fabrisse - Leonev Denness/Annie Masmajean

MIRABILE FIC! A thing I'd never thought to find. And it's wonderful. A great little bio-mystery and a pleasing catch-up with all the characters.
